Medium and Process
Polymer clay is more versatile than any other media I’ve encountered. I constantly discover new ways to create an amazing array of effects and aesthetics that overlaps what can be done in ceramic, glass, stone, wood, and fabric (to mention a few).
It is energy and the environment friendly. It bakes at 275 degrees for 20 minutes in a conventional oven, not in a kiln at 1000-2000 degrees for several hours, like ceramic or glass.
The low temperature permits many types of inclusions such as metal, glass, ceramic, wood, stone, bone, fabric, plastic, and even paper.
It is a fairly new medium used mainly for jewelry and small figures until now. I’m helping to bring it into the mainstream by using it to create large artworks.
Design Inspiration
I create colorful and whimsical pieces designed to lift people’s spirits and brighten their spaces. I love to make people laugh with innocent joy and childlike amazement. As I work, I meditate consciously, imbuing each piece with energy and blessings to benefit the person who will eventually own it. I create complex designs and rich detail by making "canes" similr to the technique used in glass lampwork. I make a long roll with the desired design as the cross-section, then cut and apply thin slices to the art piece.
